Prof. Piotr Mastalerz, Ph.D., D.Sc.

Piotr Mastalerz studied at the Wladyslaw Strzeminski Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz between 1988 and 1993.
In 2001 he obtained a first degree qualification in fine arts, and in 2010 he received a doctorate in fine arts at the Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz.
He does easel painting, drawing, unique screen printing on fabric and spatial objects (https://www.wyspasztuki.pl/artysta/piotr-mastalerz).
Piotr is the author of 28 individual exhibitions and participant of 70 group exhibitions at home, including Lodz, Warsaw, Gdansk, Torun, Rzeszow and others, as well as abroad, among others, in Germany, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Italy or the United States of America.
The artist's works are in both domestic and foreign collections.
He is a member of the Union of Polish Artists of the Warsaw District.
In his artistic work he focuses mainly on easel painting, which he treats as a base for a more formal exploration, in which composition, colour and painting are carriers of the author's intellectual and spiritual reflections. Treating painting activities as a plane for initiating new concepts, he defines his artistic identity, resulting from an inner need to use colour in a sensual and intuitive manner. He transfers the experience of painting to other fields of artistic activity, which are the development of ideas contained in their consequences.
For 30 years he has been employed as a lecturer at the Institute of Textile Architecture at the Technical University of Lodz, where in 2020 he was awarded the title of professor.
In his didactic work, he is engaged in educating students of the Institute of Textile Architecture in the field of painting and drawing. The main goal of these activities is to sensitize future designers to colour, which, while in harmony with the conceptual assumptions, is meant to be able to trigger the process of transposition of the observed reality into the language of individual artistic expression.
He is the author of seven chapters of collective monographic publications, as well as a number of texts analyzing the work of artists from the Lodz community as well as those representing Warsaw, Gdansk and Malopolska region. In addition, he devotes part of his organizational work to cooperation with the "Politechnika" and "Alchemium" galleries, of which he is a permanent curator.
